National Theater Presentations - Theater, Art, Music. The National Theater presents a variety of theater productions, classic plays and compositions, opera, dance, ballet, music, as well as famous national touring companies, to the city of San Jose. The popular theater has also presented the classic Ballet El Lago de Los Cisnes - Swan Lake. The National Symphonic Orchestra season runs from March to November with performances on Thursday and Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. Activities including the Moscow Ballet, Chinese acrobats and Costa Rican theatrical presentations are scheduled. Open to the public, the hall offers continuous art exhibitions in its lavish vestibule. The coffee shop adjoining the main lobby is a wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by. National Theater - Art & Architecture. Every day thousands walk before the theater where composer Ludwig van Beethoven and poet Calderón de la Barca busts embellish the stunning Renaissance façade that features sculptures of the muses of music, Dance and Fame, by Pietro Bulgarelli. Parts of the theater were crafted in Europe, such as the metal framework cast in Belgium and many of the statues, murals, and ceiling frescos created by Italian artists.
